Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend 2026: What to Expect as a First-Time Runner
Hi, I’m the PixieDust Mama, and I’m getting ready to attend the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend for the very first time.
I wanted to write this because I know how exciting—and slightly overwhelming—runDisney races can feel, especially if you’ve never done one before. The Princess Half Marathon combines fairytale energy with a real challenge, and let’s be honest—that’s a pretty magical mix. And here’s something not everyone realizes: not every Disney race even takes you through the castle, which makes this half marathon course extra special.

If you’re thinking about signing up for a runDisney race, or you’re already registered and wondering what race weekend is actually like, you’re in the right place.
In this post, I’m sharing what I’ve learned so far, what I expect from Princess Weekend, and what I wish I had known earlier—so you can head into race weekend feeling confident, prepared, and excited.
What Is the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend?
The Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend is a runDisney event held at Walt Disney World, featuring a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and challenge races. The weekend typically takes place in late February to early March, making it a popular choice for runners looking for a winter training goal with a fairytale twist.
Known for its princess-inspired theme and iconic medals, this race weekend offers something truly special—the chance to run through the parks before they open. If running down Main Street U.S.A. toward the castle is on your bucket list, the half marathon is the race that delivers that moment.
✨ What You Need to Know
- Location: Walt Disney World, Florida
- Races Offered: 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and challenge races
- Typical Dates: Late February–early March
- Pacing Requirement: 16-minute mile (based on a continuous pace, including character stops)
- Signature Moment: Running down Main Street, U.S.A. toward Cinderella Castle (half marathon)
- Costumes: Encouraged but completely optional
- Who Runs: Solo runners, friends, families, and charity teams
Runners participate for many different reasons—some for the challenge, some for the costumes, and many simply for the experience. While costumes add to the fun, they’re never required, and runners of all paces are welcome as long as they meet the pacing requirement.
Planning ahead is essential. General registration opens months in advance and sells out quickly. For example, registration for the 2026 race opened in June 2025, nearly eight months before race weekend, and spots filled within the hour. If you missed this year, mark your calendar early—registration for the 2027 race opens June 2, 2026. When I registered, the half marathon entry fee was $259.
For many Disney fans, the Princess Half Marathon Weekend isn’t about speed—it’s about experiencing Disney in a completely unique and unforgettable way.
About the 16-Minute Mile (What It Really Means)
If the 16-minute mile requirement sounds intimidating, take a deep breath—you’re not alone, and it’s much more doable than it may seem at first.
The pace requirement is based on a continuous 16-minute mile, which includes everything you do on the course: running, walking, water stops, bathroom breaks, and even character photos. Many runners successfully use a run/walk strategy and still finish comfortably within the pacing guidelines.

This race is designed to be inclusive and welcoming. You’ll see runners of all speeds, and the energy on the course is supportive and encouraging. As long as you’re mindful of your pace and keep moving forward, there’s plenty of room to enjoy the experience without feeling rushed.
For many runners, the Princess Half Marathon isn’t about racing the clock—it’s about crossing the finish line, earning the medal, and soaking in the magic along the way.
What I Expect the Princess Race Weekend to Be Like
From everything I’ve read, seen and experienced so far, race weekend includes:
- A Race Expo at ESPN Wide World of Sports
- Head here for bib and merchandise pickup(my wallet might cry) – I’m looking forward to seeing the new Brooks x runDisney princess drop!
- There are 3 separate buildings for bib pickup, race merchandise shopping, and tee shirt/gear check bag pickup. You can also stock up on any energy gels, costume and recovery items for the race.
- There are also usually some character photo ops in the bib pickup area.
- This expo isn’t only for runners – your whole group can attend!

- Very Early Mornings (but magical ones) – yes I’m talking 2 am alarms!
- Bus transportation at the resorts is wonderful to Epcot (the race start).
- There will be a security process before entering the corral area.
- There are tons of porta-potties.
- There are usually a few food trucks around if you need to fuel up.
- Each corral gets sent out in multiple waves. If you want to be a little bit ahead – aim for the front of your corral.
- Character Photo Ops
- There are always unique and rare character sightings on the course. I’m hoping to meet my favorite princess!
- Lines can be long but tend to move quickly.
- Make sure your bib is visible so that your pics get connected to your photo gallery.
- Amazing Running Costumes
- Some people pull out all the stops! I’m always impressed by the creativity.
- A Supportive and Encouraging Crowd
- I have seen marching bands, choirs and dj’s on other courses!
- A Finish Line Moment That Feels Magical
- You will finish back at Epcot and hopefully wave to princess Minnie!
- Afterparty Beyond the Finish Line
- Drinks, shopping, food, a DJ, character photo-ops – what more could you ask for?
I’m preparing myself for early alarms, porta-potty stops (sigh), and a little caffeine with deprivation. BTW I’m a coffee addict. I’ll take the good and the not so-good because I know it’s all going to be worth it. I’m telling you there is nothing like the crowd cheering you on while running down Main Street U.S.A.!
Why I Decided to Do the Disney Princess Half Marathon
I was pretty much hooked after my first Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend in 2025. The costumes, the energy, and the opportunity to run through the parks before they open – I was in love. As a mom of 2 young kids, signing up for these races also inspired me to keep up with my fitness goals. This race felt like a fun way to blend fitness, nostalgia, and a little magic.

I also loved the idea of combining a fun family vacation with a personal challenge. Believe me, I felt like I earned those churros and Mickey waffles by the end of the race weekend!
How I’m Preparing (So Far)
Right now, I’m preparing by:
- Training
- I’ve been using the Runna app for training because it creates a plan based on your current skill level, which made getting started feel much more manageable. I also love that runDisney races are already built into the app, so everything feels extra streamlined. And honestly, I’m giving myself grace when I miss a run—because training during blizzard season is a challenge all on its own.
- Costume Brainstorming
- I focused on costume ideas that are both pretty and functional—because no one wants to spend an entire race adjusting their outfit. I love the running skirts from POPFLEX since they give major princess vibes while still being practical, with secure pockets and athletic details that stay in place.
- Creating a Packing List
- I’m also putting together a packing list to make sure nothing important gets left behind—especially costume pieces. The less I have to worry about on race morning, the better.
- Self-Care
- Most importantly, I’m reminding myself that this weekend is about fun, not perfection. I’m giving myself permission to stop for photos, enjoy the views, and soak in the magic—because the memories matter just as much as the miles.
Final Thoughts
If you’re on the fence about a runDisney race—especially the Princess Half Marathon Weekend—just know that you don’t have to be a perfect runner to belong here.
You can walk. You can jog. You can stop for photos.

If you love Disney, enjoy special events, and want to try something new, this experience truly is for you. I’ll be sharing more about my Princess Weekend experience after race weekend, so be sure to check back for updates.
✨ Because running through a castle before breakfast is a little bit magical.
I don’t plan on growing up—and this feels like exactly the kind of magic adult me still believes in.
